How to Create New Outfit Ideas for 2019 With Your Wardrobe Basics

We all have our favourite wardrobe basics that we wear from season to season. Items such as a classic, fitted winter coat, leather biker jacket or a tailored blazer. Knowing how to update your existing wardrobe with an item from the latest high-street trends is key.  It’s a good idea to invest in a well fitted winter coat in a neutral, earthy colour like beige so you can combine it with different colours, textures & prints each season to give it a new lease of life. Here’s how I took a couple of key trends for A/W 2019 & combined them with my wardrobe basics to create some hot new looks:

1. Faux fur aviator jacket

One of the new additions to my winter wardrobe is a black faux fur aviator jacket from River Island (€100). I’ve combined it with some classic accessories to create a chic new look. The beige, black & red scarf is something I’ve owned for at least 5 years & the Payton leopard shades are from the sunglass galleria ($44.99). This jacket is a classic I hope to wear each winter for years to come while updating it each season with funky accessories.

2. How to wear zebra print

Animal print is on-trend again for 2019 & I’m obsessed with zebra print. I’m making a statement this season by choosing a black & beige, zebra print top (€34) from M&S & combining it with several of my wardrobe basics. It’s perfect underneath a fitted, camel coat purchased two years ago in Oasis (€89). See below for a few ways to wear zebra print this season:

3. Update your classic blazer

A classic blazer is an essential wardrobe staple. My grey & black pinstripe jacket from H&M (€40) is super versatile. It takes me from the office to after dinner drinks depending on what I wear with it. For a smart, professional day-time look, I wear it with a short burgundy shift dress with fluted sleeves (€30) from Warehouse. In the evening I wear it with a high-neck lace burgundy top from Vila (€24.95) & black trousers with side stripe from Oasis (€16).

One of my favourite wardrobe basics is a black fringe blazer with pearl detail from Zara purchased in last year’s January sale. It’s perfect worn with a pretty top, faux leather jeans & ankle boots. To create a smart, chic look for evening, I wear it with the aforementioned zebra print top & jeans. I sometimes add a soft & cosy leopard print scarf from Zara (€9.99)

4. Create your unique look

The key to making the 2019 trends work for you is to choose something like animal print, check or tie-dye & combine them with one of your wardrobe basics to create a unique look. Laying a few items on your bed will help you decide what works & what doesn’t. My ‘go to’ wardrobe basics are in block colours such as black, beige, red, brown & white. From here, it’s easy to add prints & textures to update the look for the new season.
