Now that travel restrictions have been lifted, many of us are booking travel to far flung destinations once again. This June, I’m planning a 2 week trip of a lifetime to San Francisco, so I’m sharing some tips on the carry-on essentials to pack to ensure you have a safe, comfortable & enjoyable flight!

1. Backpack

A great trip always starts with the right backpack. Your ideal backpack should not only be comfortable to wear but spacious enough for storing all your items. For the perfect travel companion, check out my recommendations below.

Matein laptop backpack

As well as storing a 15.6 inch laptop, this spacious backpack comes with a lockable zipper in the main compartment. Another great feature is a hidden anti-theft pocket to keep your valuables safe. Available on Amazon for only €35.35. How’s that for a great carry-on essential?!

Nordace smart backpack

Combining a cool, sleek design with functionality and multiple innovative features, the Nordace smart backpack €99, is ideal for storing all your carry-on essentials. As well as being lightweight & water resistant, it comes in a variety of colours including black, sky blue and grey.

2. Noise Cancelling Headphones

While on an aircraft you want to enjoy the best audio experience as well eliminate any unwanted noise around you (such as a screaming baby!). Noise cancelling headphones have powered tech (like a rechargeable battery) in order for them to work. They monitor the sound around you, preventing the unwanted noise from ever reaching your ears. Check out the latest & greatest on the market:

Sony headphones

With excellent noise cancelling & sound quality, these Sony headphones can be paired with two Bluetooth devices at the same time. Available on Amazon for €285.

Bose headphones carry-on essentials

The Bose bluetooth headphones offer three levels of noise cancellation for a better listening experience, which is just what you need to enjoy your favourite music during a long flight. They are Alexa and Google Assistant enabled for voice access to music, information and more. Available at Amazon for €377.48.

3. Neck pillow

Getting quality sleep on a long haul flight can definitely be a challenge. A neck pillow supports your neck while you sleep so you’ll wake up at your destination feeling refreshed.

4. Eye mask

When you want to get some shut eye on a plane, you need a black out eye mask that’s soft & comfy to wear. Make a statement with the La Course natural mulberry silk eye mask available at Amazon EUR 10.53. Also comes with 4 pairs of ear plugs in a travel pouch. Unlike other fake silk masks, this one is skin friendly & reduces fine lines. Just what you need for quality beauty sleep!

5. Ear Plugs

I personally find silicone earplugs more comfortable than foam earplugs because they are designed to only cover the ear opening without needing to be inserted inside your ear canal. These are re-usable and can be rolled and re-shaped before use. Available at Boots, 3 pairs for €5.99.

Fly Fit earplugs

These re-usable earplugs absorb engine & cabin noise while ensuring that conversations can still be heard. They also prevent any difference in pressure and pains in your ears while flying. Available at Inish for €9.99.

6. Hydrating Face Gel

As a seasoned traveller, the best advice I can give you for a long haul flight is to wear comfortable clothing, stay hydrated and try to get some sleep. Finally, to keep your skin aglow when you arrive at your destination, apply a deeply hydrating moisturiser such as Murad Clarifying Water Gel Hydrating Face Moisturiser – available at Amazon for €33.02.
